Above Positano on the Amalfi Coast, Le Sirenuse occupies a Pompeian-red family palazzo with a front-row view of the village. One of the coast’s most beloved hotels, it brings together art, ceramics and the continuity of a family that has run it for generations. The atmosphere feels personal and characterful, suited to travellers who value a sense of place as much as a beautiful outlook. A panoramic pool and views of Positano give the setting its natural focus, inviting time spent simply taking in the village. For a luxury stay shaped by family stewardship and an appreciation of art, Le Sirenuse offers a distinctive expression of the Amalfi Coast.
Features & Amenities
The Covellea perspective
Le Sirenuse gives Positano a particularly personal frame: a Pompeian-red family palazzo above the village, where the outlook is matched by the character within. Run by the Sersale family for generations, it combines a panoramic pool with rooms shaped by art, antiques and ceramics. The atmosphere is less about uniform hotel polish than the pleasures of a carefully kept home, with Mediterranean light providing the thread that runs through it all.
The family’s former retreat, originally Villa Giulietta, became a hotel in 1951. Its new name came from the three Li Galli islets visible from the beach-facing terrace, once known as Le Sirenuse for their association with the sirens of Greek myth. That connection between house, family and landscape remains central to its appeal. Inside, Franco Sersale’s collecting instincts live on through antique furniture, artworks and Suzani rugs, while bespoke floor tiles were fired by a historic ceramics firm in Salerno.
Across the 58 rooms, white walls, cotton curtains and, in many cases, traditional cross-vaulted ceilings make light part of the decoration. No two rooms are alike, so choose with the outlook in mind rather than assuming every category delivers the same panorama: Courtyard rooms face an inner courtyard and have limited views. Look, too, at the smaller details, including Eau d’Italie bathroom amenities, a fragrance and body-care brand born here from the family’s wish to evoke Positano.
Leave time for the hotel itself between outings. La Sponda takes its culinary inspiration from Naples, Vesuvius and the Amalfi Coast; Aldo’s, the Pool Bar and Don’t Worry Bar offer different settings for a drink. Reserve dinner ahead, and if arriving by ferry with heavy luggage, arrange porter assistance: Positano’s stairs and sloping paths deserve a little planning.
